Garden ClearanceTree SurgeryStump Grinding

The Challenge

A large, neglected rear garden in Hampton, Peterborough — overgrown with self-seeded trees, a crumbling concrete patio, and a waterlogged lawn. The clients wanted a low-maintenance garden they could actually use.

Our Solution

We started with a full garden clearance, removing 4 self-seeded ash trees (all with TPO checks confirmed clear), grinding the stumps, and stripping the old concrete patio. We then installed a 65m² porcelain patio in Slate Grey 900×600, a new lawn with premium turf, raised sleeper beds, and a timber pergola with LED lighting. The drainage issue was resolved with a French drain running to a soakaway.

What We Delivered

  • 65m² porcelain patio installed to falls for drainage
  • 4 self-seeded trees removed, stumps ground
  • New premium turf lawn — 120m²
  • Raised sleeper beds with topsoil and planting
  • Timber pergola with integrated LED lighting
  • French drain and soakaway resolving waterlogging
"We can't believe the transformation. The garden was a jungle when they started and now it's the best room in the house. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish."

Driveway InstallationResin BoundDrainage

The Challenge

A tired block paving driveway in Hartford, Huntingdon — sunken in places, with significant weed growth through the joints and a crumbling edge restraint. The client wanted a modern, low-maintenance alternative that would add kerb appeal.

Our Solution

We lifted and removed the existing block paving, re-graded the sub-base, and installed a new MOT Type 1 sub-base to correct the levels. We then installed a 48m² resin bound driveway in Cotswold Gold aggregate (6mm), with new concrete edge restraints and a channel drain at the base of the garage. The result is a smooth, permeable surface that is SuDS compliant and requires minimal maintenance.

What We Delivered

  • Existing block paving lifted and removed
  • Sub-base re-graded and compacted to correct levels
  • 48m² resin bound surface in Cotswold Gold
  • New concrete edge restraints throughout
  • Channel drain at garage threshold
  • SuDS-compliant permeable surface
"The driveway looks incredible. We've had so many compliments from neighbours. The team were professional, tidy and finished ahead of schedule."

Duration

Project Value

Tree SurgeryTPO ApplicationCrown Reduction

The Challenge

A large oak tree in a rear garden in Newnham, Cambridge — subject to a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) — had suffered significant storm damage, with a major limb partially failed and hanging over the neighbour's property. A second, smaller ash tree had died and needed felling. Both required council consent.

Our Solution

We submitted a TPO application to Cambridge City Council for the oak crown reduction and emergency works to the failed limb. Consent was granted within 5 days. Our NPTC-qualified arborists carried out the emergency limb removal using aerial rigging techniques to avoid damage to the garden below, followed by a crown reduction of approximately 25% to BS 3998. The dead ash was felled in sections and the stump ground to below ground level.

What We Delivered

  • TPO application submitted and approved within 5 days
  • Failed limb removed safely using aerial rigging
  • 25% crown reduction to BS 3998 standard
  • Dead ash tree felled in sections
  • Stump ground to below ground level
  • All arisings chipped and removed from site
"They handled the TPO application for us, which we'd been dreading. The whole job was done professionally and the garden was left spotless."

The Challenge

A rear garden in Ely with a severely compacted, moss-dominated lawn — the result of years of neglect and poor drainage. The clients had tried scarifying and overseeding themselves with no success. The lawn needed a complete renovation.

We stripped the existing lawn using a turf cutter, rotavated the soil to 150mm depth, and incorporated 50mm of topsoil to improve the structure. We then installed 180m² of premium grade turf (Rolawn Medallion), laid to falls to improve surface drainage. We also installed a pop-up drainage channel along the fence line where water was pooling.

What We Delivered

  • Existing lawn stripped and removed
  • Soil rotavated to 150mm depth
  • 50mm topsoil incorporated throughout
  • 180m² Rolawn Medallion premium turf laid

Patio InstallationGarden WallingHard Landscaping

The Challenge

A sloping rear garden in Stamford with an old concrete slab patio that was cracked, uneven, and too small for the family's needs. The clients wanted a larger entertaining space with a raised seating area and a retaining wall to manage the slope.

Our Solution

We broke out and removed the existing concrete slabs, excavated to create two levels, and built a 600mm high retaining wall in reclaimed Lincolnshire limestone to match the house. We then installed a 45m² Indian sandstone patio (Raj Green, 900×600) on the lower level and a 15m² raised seating area on the upper level, connected by two steps. All pointing was carried out in a matching buff mortar.

What We Delivered

  • Existing concrete slabs broken out and removed
  • Two-level garden created with excavation
  • 600mm retaining wall in reclaimed Lincolnshire limestone
  • 45m² Indian sandstone patio (Raj Green)
  • 15m² raised seating area
  • Two-step connection between levels

Japanese Knotweed TreatmentGarden ClearanceManagement Plan

The Challenge

A rear garden in Woodston, Peterborough with a significant Japanese knotweed infestation covering approximately 25m² — discovered during a property sale. The mortgage lender required a professional treatment programme with a management plan before the sale could proceed.

Our Solution

We carried out a site survey and produced a Japanese knotweed management plan meeting the requirements of the Property Care Association (PCA) and the mortgage lender. We then began a 3-year herbicide treatment programme using approved glyphosate-based treatments, applied in spring and late summer each year. A full garden clearance was also carried out to remove all other overgrowth.

What We Delivered

  • Site survey and PCA-compliant management plan produced
  • Management plan accepted by mortgage lender
  • 3-year herbicide treatment programme commenced
  • Full garden clearance carried out
  • Annual monitoring visits included
  • Insurance-backed guarantee provided
"They sorted out the knotweed problem that was holding up our house sale. The management plan was accepted by the lender and the sale went through. Couldn't have done it without them."
